The Cabin

The Cabin was an accomodation solution designed for Wild Modular. Wild Modular is an Australian modular construction start up which specialises in prefabricated accomodation pods. This project was designed for a client looking for a modern and rustic cabin with high end finishes and interior features.
It was modelled in SketchUp and rendered in VRay.

Design Inspiration

This pod uses wood heavily throughout the design to emphasise the cabin feel. Natural timber floors and interior wall paneling have a modern take on the theme of a rustic cabin. A free standing bath and direct access to the deck module make the space open and free moving in the limited footprint of 40 m2. Dark accents add depth and a modern twist to the heavy timber interior.
The angled front and rear walls bring an added sense of the extraordinary to this design and assist it stand out from more conventional designs.

The exterior of the cabin has been kept rather minimal and constrained as the intentions the client had for it were directed towards it being amongst the trees, where the exterior would be obstructed. This shifted the importance of aesthetics towards the interior appearance.
An added feature of the slanted front and rear walls is creating an incorporated shelter for the entrance. This visually indicates the entrance and functionally provides some protection from the rain and elements. Additionally, this removes the requirement for a seperate module for the deck.
